FOUR SEXY NEW WAYS
The following is a list of products that contribute toward leading a more sustainable lifestyle, that we use and like, and meet our criteria for design. We are not paid to feature these products. The only product testing we do is through our own personal, daily use. All of the products that we recommend/use must be easy to use, affordable, appropriately sized for urban space limitations, and most importantly, sexy.
THE EARTH MACHINE
If you have a garden or access to one, composting is a great way to recycle your kitchen vegetable matter instead of adding it to your local landfill.
Many cities even have composting programs where they will subsidize the cost of your composting equipment. We chose the Earth Machine for our composter because it was affordably priced, easy to use, and we liked its sleek black plastic design. You do need to turn over or rotate your compost material weekly to help it break down, but we see this as a bonus, as it forced us to buy the pitchfork we’ve always longed for. Best of all the Earth Machine is super easy to assemble and it fit in the back of our VW Golf.

RSVP COMPOST PAIL
If you’re composting, you’ll need a compost pail for your kitchen. Compost pails have come a long way from the days when Anne’s parents started composting in the seventies. Most buckets today combine a double charcoal filter with a snug top, so there is no smell or unsightly mess.
RSVP makes a pretty stunning, polished stainless steel version that looks great in the modern kitchen. We keep ours on display in our stainless steel sink at all times. We’ve found its one gallon capacity holds about two days' worth of vegetable matter for two people. You can find out about this product at:

SOLIO PORTABLE CHARGER
Is that a solio portable charger in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? Digital products/accessories are so much a part of our daily lives, we don’t really think about the energy that we consume using our hi-tech toys. This product allows you to charge your digital accessories using solar power. It’s a small step that adds up. Fitting in the palm of your hand, it truly is portable, so you can bring it with you camping, or traveling. It’s extremely easy to use and comes with a variety of different plugs for different accessories. This item makes a great gift for the civilian and the gadget freak. Available at www.solio.com.
Don’t be afraid of the dark side. Blackle is a version of Google that features a black backround instead of a white backround. According to the website, black backrounds use less energy than the white ones, so if you spend a lot of time on Google this is another small energy saving step that can make a difference.
